SQLite.dll
« on: September 16, 2014, 10:32:30 AM »
I have a three questions for anyone who has worked with SQLite3.dll.

1 - Do you have to 'include' sqlite.dll in your program somehow to use it?

2- Any examples that I have seen about creating a database  called test.db with SQLite3 all show the following code:

Code: [Select]

$ sqlite3 test.db
SQLite version 3.0.8
Enter ".help" for instructions
sqlite>

Is that "SQLite version 3.0.8" and "Enter ".help" for instructions" necessary or could you not simply  use

$ sqlite3 test.db

Maybe they are running SQLite on their PC from a command line rather than using a .dll and the version and help message is something that SQLite displays after entering a command or something.

I have worked with MySQL in php but not with SQLite3.  Does anyone know if SQlite can use a database that was created using MySQL?

Thanks,

John

John,

The Code you have posted is from a computer Dos command. Sqlite can be used from a Dos Prompt or it can be used in your programs with SQLite3.dll.

Look in the Example I posted and you will see how SQLite is INCLUDED into that program...

Sqlite3 has a DLL and also a Dos program.

Do a Google search for a book "The Definitive Guide SQLite (2006).pdf"
There appears to be quite a few places you can get this book. And it gives you a complete run down on SQLite from the Author.

Thanks Alan, I will look for that pdf.

I found a cool utility which is a SQLite Manager called SQLite Expert Personal.  There is a professional version which costs money but the personal version is free. I downloaded it and it works great.  You can create databases, create tables, add data, create views, create indexes etc.  Anyone interested in SQLite should take a peek at it.

You can find it here:   http://www.sqliteexpert.com/download.html

Hi John,
I use a prog called SQLite Expert and it is great for fixing or editing or creating SQLite.
There are heaps of progs out there on SQLite.

About the import - I have only used MySQL a little bit when learning PHP a couple years ago. So do not know how it really works other than it is SQL.

If you can Export CSV file from a MySql Table then it could be imported into a SQLite Table.

SQLite can work with CSV ok.

Thanks Alan,

As I mentioned in my post above, I discovered SQLite Expert today as well and installed the free "Personal" version. The database that I am working on will be used for read only and SQLite Expert will work great for creating the database, the tables, and for entering the data that will be needed for my program.

Cheers,

John
